3 Days PMVA Induction Course
This 3 day Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) Training is a mandatory requirement for any member of staff that works in a violent/ aggressive setting, particularly within a mental health environment.
Course content has been developed in line with the GSA (General Services Association) standards and currently going through the BILD certification process, in order to meet the requirements of the 2019 Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards.
The RRN Training Standards have now replaced the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) Code of Practice. (Source: restraintreductionnetwork.org/training-standards/)

- Situational Awareness
- Identifying, Managing and Reflecting on Triggers
- Listening and Communication Skills (communication models)
- Indicators of Confrontational Behaviour (Warning and Danger Signs
- Documentation, Record Keeping + Post Incident De-briefing
- Verbal and Non-Verbal De-escalation Techniques
- Disengagement Techniques (Wrist Grabs, Body Grabs, Hair/Clothing Grabs + Strangulation, Avoiding Punches and Kicks)
- Role + Responsibilities of Head Person, 3 C’s, presenting + securing head
- Instruction + practice of: –
o Friendly come along (including non-Contact, stage one, two + figure of four)
o Standing holds to include (Escape and Rescue)
o Upper Arm Wrap, Team Formulation & Approach
o Upper Arm Wrap to a secure hold
o Seated De-escalation to include Trouble Drills
- Instruction + practice of: –
o Upper Arm Wrap to Supine
o Turning from relocation holds to wrap and vice versa
o Supine Descent to floor to elevated rest position
o Supine trouble drill sniper
o Standing from floor to Supine
o De-escalation in Supine
o Securing legs in Supine
o Supine I.M

This course is for any delegate who is required to complete 3 day PMVA training or those that need to update their 3 day PMVA training certificate.
A health declaration must be completed on the day of the course, which will be assessed by the course tutor.
Due to the physical nature of this course we cannot accept any pregnant candidates on the course, post- natal learners should seek advice from their GP prior to attendance. All candidates must wear suitable clothing, e.g. tracksuit bottoms, trainers and t-shirt.
